Mermaid Quilt - Beginner Curved Piecing Class

Practice piecing blocks with curves while working your way through this beautiful modern and/or scrappy quilt pattern, Mermaid, from Color Girl Quilts. The Mermaid quilt pattern is beginner and fat quarter friendly!! Gentle curved piecing makes Mermaid the ideal pattern for quilters new to curved piecing. Curved pieces are quick to cut and easy to piece with the Classic Curves Plus or Classic Curves Ruler. 

Pattern includes instructions to make the quilt in three sizes: 

Baby 36” x 48”; Throw 60" x 72" or Queen 108" x 108"

REQUIRED FOR CLASS:

 Supplies Needed for Day of Class: 

• Sewing machine in good working order, power cord, foot pedal, manual (just in case) and Patchwork foot (¼” foot) 
• Single Hole stitch plate (if available) and BERNINA 8/8C/8D foot (optional, if sewing on a BERNINA) 
• Thread and Needles 
• Pins 
• Scissors and Thread snips 
• Rotary Cutter (recommend 45 mm) 
• Quilting rulers (recommend: 8 ½” square or larger square) 
• Classic Curves Plus Ruler or Classic Curves Ruler 
• Glue Stick 
• Cutting mat for personal use 
• Small iron and pressing mat for personal use 
• Clapper (optional) 
• Irons and Large Cutting Mats (provided by store) 

Complete the following in advance: 

• Read through the general instructions on the pattern to familiarize yourself with the information. 
• Select the size project you would like to make: Baby, Throw, or Queen. 
• It may be helpful to highlight the quantity needed at each step for the quilt size you plan to make. Bring a highlighter. 
• On page 1, you will find the instructions regarding cutting. You will be cutting out all the fabrics as given on the page. Complete the directions for the first cut AND then SUB-CUT. 

This is a full day class with a short break for lunch. Feel free to bring something to eat and drink while you work on your project. 

HOMEWORK….. It is recommended to complete this before the day of the class to make the most of the time available during the class. 

Bring all your precut fabrics and any excess with you to class along with all the necessary materials and supplies. 

Class will include demonstrating how to cut both the convex and concave curves from the Classic Curves Plus Ruler, providing step-by-step instructions on achieving smooth, precise cuts. Additionally, the class will cover tips for troubleshooting common issues, multiple methods of sewing curves and achieving professional-quality results in their work.
