Thread Painting Flip Flop Notebook

What is Thread Painting? Thread painting or free-motion machine embroidery, is a unique way of “painting” images onto fabric. Generally, the machine is set on straight or zig-zag stitch formats, but decorative stitches may be applied to yield additional texture. The feed dogs are down, giving the sewer freedom to move the fabric in any direction, while thread paints a picture. 

Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: You must know how to use your sewing machine and know the functions. Must know how to use a rotary cutter and mat.
Requirements: Materials & Supplies Needed:
  • Kits will be available for purchase
  • Fabric: heavy-weight plain fabric (e.g. duck cloth, linen) (9 1/5 inches by 12 1/2 inches)
  • Lining Fabric: light weight fabric (9 1/2 inches by 25 inches)
  • Cotton Batting (9 1/2 inches by 12 1/2 inches)
  • Light to Medium Weight Fusible Interfacing (9 1/2 inches by 12 1/2 inches)
  • Cork Fabric: 8 inch square
  • Heat N Bond lite (9 1/2 inch by 20 inch)
  • Thread and Bobbins: to match thread painting design colors and background fabric Patch Weight Water Dissolvable Stabilizer: (2 pieces: 12 1/2 inch by 12 1/2 inch)
  • Sharp #90 /14Sewing Machine Needle
  • Scissors
  • Water soluble pen: any color that is opposite of your fabric color
  • Approximately 2 feet of cording; color of your choice
  • Embroidery Hoop (approximately 8 Inches inches diameter)
  • Presser Feet: open-toe embroidery foot, standard foot for straight stitching
  • All of your sewing machine items and sewing supplies
