Bondi Top Extension Class

Bondi Top Extension Pack

Change the look of your Bondi top by adding sleeves (with or without cuffs) and pockets.  This is a great pattern for those getting started with garment sewing.

In this class you will add sleeves, cuffs, and pockets to your Bondi top.  You can also lengthen it slightly to hip length.  We will discuss the method to create a dress from this pattern but will not have time to actually sew the dress in this class.  This pattern is best suited for rayon, lawn, linen, and light to medium weight woven materials.

Skill Level:          Confident Beginner (to garment sewing)

Skill Details:  This class is suitable for a confident sewer with limited garment construction knowledge.  You should know how to read a pattern layout and place and cut your pattern pieces on your fashion fabric.  You must already have knowledge of your sewing machine and how to operate it.

  •          Bondi Top and Bondi Top Extension patterns (2 total)
  •          You should have sewn the top before, so that you know you have the correct size.
  •          Note that you will need to purchase enough fabric to sew the top, plus bias binding for the neckline, plus the amount noted on the extension pack pattern to cut sleeves, bands and pockets.  Buy extra if you wish to extend to a hip-length tunic or are working with a directional print.
  •          Prepare your fashion fabric as directed in the pre-work section below.
  •          Thread
  •          Single fold bias tape (1 package) in a compatible color for your fashion fabric.  Bring if you don’t want to create bias tape of the fashion fabric. Either method will be used to finish your neckline.
  •          Basic sewing supplies (eg. scissors, nips for trimming threads, straight pins, hand-sewing needles, thread, erasable pen or marker, tracing wheel and paper, hot hemmer ruler (optional, but quite handy), quilting ruler, tape measure, etc.)
  •          Small pressing mat and personal iron (optional)
  •          Sewing machine in good working order
  •          If you have any questions, please contact the store and they will put you in contact with Linda who will consult with you.

Pre-work before class:

  •          Pre-wash your fashion fabric as you would normally launder the finished garment.
  •          Lay out your fashion fabric, but do not cut it.   We will check your layout in class before cutting.
