Bondi Top Class

Cottage Shirt

Sew a versatile pullover top that’s perfect for our Florida sunshine.

In this beginner level class you will learn how to select the correct size, interpret a pattern envelope and pattern pieces, layout and cutting, and the benefits of sewing a muslin first.

This pattern is best suited for lightweight cottons, linens, or other tightly woven fabrics that have drape.  Great for solids or patterns. Buy extra fabric if you wish to use a directional print.

Skill Level:          Beginner (to garment sewing)

Skill Details:       You must already have knowledge of your sewing machine and how to operate it.   This class is suitable for a beginning sewer with limited garment construction knowledge.

Requirements:

  •          Bondi Top pattern by Sew To Grow
  •          Muslin or other stash fabric that you would like to use for creating your muslin.
  •          Pre-washed  and ironed fashion fabric  (Suggested fabrics are light to medium weight tightly woven fabrics with some drape)
  •          Purchase and extra  half yard of fashion fabric and you will learn how to create your own bias tape that will match your garment.
  •          Thread
  •          Basic sewing supplies (eg. scissors, nips for trimming threads, pins, hand-sewing needles, erasable pen or marker, tracing wheel and paper, hot hemmer ruler (optional, but quite handy), quilting ruler, tape measure, etc.)
  •          Sewing machine in good working order.  Bring your sewing machine manual, if available.

Pre-work before class:

  •          Pre-wash your fashion fabric as you would normally launder.  Muslin does not need to be pre-washed.
  •          Cut apart the main pattern pieces, but do not cut on the size lines unless you are certain you know what size you will be sewing.
