The Cottage Shirt

Cottage Shirt

Sew a loose-fitting camp shirt with a modern twist. Easy and breezy for our Florida weather.

In this class you will learn collar and collar stand construction, along with machine sewn buttonholes. This pattern is best suited for lightweight cottons, linens, or other tightly woven fabrics. Great for solids or patterns, but please avoid stripes or directional prints for your first time sewing this shirt.

This class will run the full six hours.  Before class, please do the following:

  • Determine which size you want to sew.  The back of the pattern envelope has guidance and pattern piece #2 has a chart showing finished measurements.   Only you know how much ease you like in your finished garments.

  • Cut apart the tissue and mark the cutting line of your desired size on each pattern piece.  A colored pencil is helpful for this task.

  • Pre-wash, press and CUT your fabric. See notes below:

  • Cut your fabric/pattern pieces. If you marked your desired size lines on the tissue this will go smoothly for you. The fabric cutting layout is quite helpful. Be sure to mark all notches and dots.
  • Become familiar with your machine’s buttonholer function.  We will cover button-hole placement/alignment and button stitching but cannot trouble-shoot how your machine actually sews a buttonhole.  Bring your manual, if available.
