Glimmer Quilt

Description: Glimmer by Julie Herman for Jaybird Quilts is a sewing pattern to make a gorgeous star quilt. Equal parts of 3 fabric pairs work together quickly to create a stunning medallion star that is secretly fast and fun to make. The pattern includes five different sizes, from a 10 inch mug rug to a Large Lap at 74 inch. This quilt pattern is square in design and uses 7 quilt fabrics. Pair up some of your favorite fabrics to make the Glimmer Quilt!

The pattern uses the Super Sidekick Ruler. Skill Level: Advanced beginner

Materials & Supplies Needed: written on the back of the pattern

Supplies Needed for Day of Class:

  • Sewing machine in good working order, power cord, foot pedal, manual (just in case) and Patchwork foot (1⁄4 inch foot)

  • Thread

  • Super Sidekick Ruler

  • Basic Notions: Pins, rotary cutter, scissors/snips, etc

  • Quilting rulers (sizes recommended: 6" x 24", 6 1⁄2” square, 12 1⁄2” square)

  • Cutting mat for personal use

  • Pencil, chalk, water soluble pen or thin marker to mark with

    This is an all-day class. Feel free to bring something to eat and drink while you work on your project.

    HOMEWORK.....It is recommended to complete this before the day of the class.
    Read through the general instructions on the pattern to familiarize yourself with the information. On page 2-4, you will find the cutting directions for
    each size. Directions are included for 5 different projects. Each of the projects use the same single block, but the block size changes with each project size.

    Complete the following in advance AS GIVEN IN THE PATTERN DIRECTIONS:

  • Select the size project you would like to make. Follow the directions in the pattern for that size.

  • Lay out your fabrics and label each A through F with post-its or scraps of paper. Label the background fabric.

  • Follow the steps in the Cutting Directions section for the size chosen.

  • Cut the strips as listed on pages 2-4 for the project size selected.

  • Then make the strip sets (A/B) (C/D) (E/F) by sewing the long edges of two strips

    together. Press these seams open.

  • Relabel the strip sets.

    Bring the strip sets, the cut background strips and all extra fabrics with you to class.

    We will begin with a demonstration on how to read the super sidekick ruler and cut the strip sets.

Instructor Bio: I relocated from upstate New York a couple of years ago with my husband. I am a retired math teacher with over 30 years experience and taught classes at Amelia's Garden Sewing Boutique In Delmar, NY. I have been quilting since the late 90's. I am a modern quilting enthusiast and enjoy making bags!! I am a co-designer of The Perfect Wallet and the designer of The Mini Wallet. I enjoy teaching others and inspire them to build on and expand their quilting and sewing skills.
