Perfect Binding



Do you love to piece and quilt, but not so much the binding? Fear not, this class will teach you the methods to ensure a beautiful binding to add the perfect finish to your quilts.  Topics covered include preparing the quilt for binding, cutting and sewing binding strips, perfectly mitered corners and machine stitching the binding down, as well as hand binding.

Skill Details: All Levels
Requirements: Knowledge of your sewing machine, use a rotary cutter and quilting rulers. Supplies needed for class:
  • Small project quilted. You could also use two fat quarters sandwiched with batting, and quilted.
  • 1/3 yards fabric for binding. Helen will teach cutting the strips in class
  • Sewing machine in good working order and approprate feet (quarter inch, edgestitch, etc)
  • Power cord, foot control and manual
  • Rotary cutter with new blade
  • New needle size 75/11 or 80/12
  • 50 weight neutral thread for top and bobbin, or whatever color you desire if this is a finished project.
  • Sewing notions - scissors, snips, seam ripper, marking pen or pencil, pins, etc.
  • Small pressing mat and personal iron (optional)
  • Small personal cutting mat (optional)
